Your Complete Guide to Choosing the Right Ionizer
The Types of Alkaline Water Ionizers Available in India:
To make things easier, we’ve categorized the ionizers into three main types:
1) Traditional Alkaline Water Ionizers:
These ionizers are often referred to simply as alkaline water ionizers. They use traditional electrode plates (electrolysis chamber), which come with some limitations:
- They produce a limited amount of dissolved molecular hydrogen (up to 300 ppb at most).
- To reach certain pH levels, like 11.5 pH, they require chemical enhancers, as such levels aren’t naturally achievable through electrolysis alone.
- Variations in water pressure or TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) can sometimes lead to water that is too alkaline (e.g., 10.0 or 10.5 pH), which may not be suitable for drinking.
2) Hydrogen Water Generators:
These ionizers focus primarily on increasing molecular hydrogen content in the water. While they also use electrolysis, they rely on a specific membrane technology called SPE-PEM (Solid Polymer Electrolyte — Proton Exchange Membrane). However, they do not increase the water’s alkalinity.
- Benefit: These ionizers boost the molecular hydrogen level and negative ORP.
- Limitation: They do not separate the acidic elements from the source water. Since both alkaline and acidic minerals are ionized, consuming positively charged acidic minerals could have adverse effects on health.
- Another concern: SPE-PEM-based ionizers generate ozone as a by-product, which can be harmful. While certain brands offer ozone separation mechanisms, others may not disclose this information, leaving consumers unaware of potential risks.
3) Hydrogen Plus Alkaline Water Ionizers:
Primarily found in the Japanese market since 2014, these ionizers provide both hydrogen and alkaline water. With selectable pH values. Brands like Fujiiryoki, Nihon Trim-Ion, and Mitsubishi are known for producing these high-quality ionizers.
- Benefit: These ionizers don’t use SPE-PEM technology. Instead, they employ advanced mechanisms such as patented electrode plates (Fujiiryoki) and dual electrolysis chambers (Fujiiryoki and Nihon Trim-Ion). This allows the production of high dissolved molecular hydrogen without external chemical enhancers. One chamber generates molecular hydrogen, while the other separates out the acidic elements.
- Limitation: These ionizers are typically more expensive due to the advanced technology and high-end electrode plates with dual Electrolysers that increase the cost. Additionally, because they are primarily made in Japan, only Fujiiryoki is currently available in India.
· Conclusion: Make an Informed Choice.
· With so many brands and ionizer types available in India, the choice can seem overwhelming. But by understanding the strengths and limitations of each type, you can make a smart decision that fits your health needs and budget. Ultimately, the best ionizer for you will depend on your specific goals — whether you’re looking for high hydrogen content, alkaline ionized water, or a combination of both. By considering the technology, health benefits, and cost, you can find the right ionizer to boost your family’s health.
